Local Restaurants

Here are a handful of our favourite local restaurants. There are also numerous tapas bars and cafes that are well worth trying out too – just ask us!

Casa Nelly (Álora)

One of our favourite casual dining spots in Álora is Casa Nelly, situated on the edge of Álora with a view of the town’s illuminated whitewashed walls.

You are guaranteed the warmest of welcomes and the traditional Andalusian menu is freshly cooked to order over their BBQ grill.  The food is wonderful (the Sectreto Iberico is a particular favourite and highly recommended) and make sure you leave room for Nelly’s homemade blueberry cheesecake!

Free parking is available outside the restaurant.

Restaurante El Mirador de Álora (Álora)

This traditional, rustic, restaurant is only a 12 minute drive from Finca Gran Cerros.  It has a fantastic view over Álora and, at night, the illuminated Arabic Castle.

The food is traditionally Andalusian; much of the menu is cooked over open coals.  The service is always friendly and attentive, and the food tasty.

Free parking is available outside the restaurant.

El Taller (Álora)

This tiny tapas bar is well known in Álora for serving traditional tapas dishes with a modern twist.  We think it’s the best tapas in town!

The bar itself has only a small number of tables inside but makes use of the terrace opposite (outside the theatre) – a great spot from which to sit and watch the word go by!

We’d definitely recommend reserving a table if you plan an evening visit.  The nearest parking is the large tiered main carpark at the entrance to the town and El Taller is less than 2 minutes’ walk away!

Asador de Don Joaquin (Carratera de Álora, km 2.5)

Specialising in the cuisine of Northern Spain’s Castilla y León region, Asador Don Joaquin, is renowned for the quality of is wood-cooked meat dishes, and more surprisingly, its wide choice of fish dishes.

It’s a spacious, contemporary restaurant with parking outside and easy access.

Santiago’s Kitchen Restaurant (Alhurin el Grande)

A little further afield, around 40 minutes away, Santiago’s Kitchen is a great choice for a special dinner or celebration.  The modern menu offers unusual takes on classic Spanish and international cuisine.

There’s a sophisticated dining room and the tree-lined, whitewashed, courtyard is festooned with lights at night giving it a very special atmosphere.  Well worth the drive.

Dynamit (Malaga)

If you’re exploring Malaga as part of your itinerary, this new little restaurant is a real hidden gem.

Owned and operated by a Swedish couple who are passionate about modern Spanish-influenced food, the menu changes daily, reflecting the best of locally available produce.

Nestled behind Malaga’s theatre, close to the famous Alcabaza, this is a real find and well worth seeking out.

It’s so new that at the time of writing, their website is a work in progress!

Find them on facebook.
