Practical Information

We aim to make staying at Finca Gran Cerros feel calm and straightforward from the outset.

This page brings together the practical details that help you plan with confidence, arrive feeling prepared, and settle in easily.

If there’s anything you’re unsure about, we’re always happy to help, just contact us.

Arrival & Getting Here

Finca Gran Cerros is located in a rural setting in the hills above Álora in inland Andalusia. The finca is best accessed by car.

Clear, detailed directions are shared ahead of your arrival. The final approach marks a noticeable transition – from busier surroundings into a quieter, more open landscape. Many guests say the journey itself helps them begin to unwind.

Málaga Airport is approximately 45 km away and is the most convenient arrival point.

Alternative options include:

  • A licensed taxi from Málaga Airport
  • A private transfer with a local driver from Álora
  • Train from Málaga Airport to Álora station (around 45 minutes with one simple platform change), followed by a short taxi ride

If you’d like details for local transfers or car hire recommendations, just ask.

Parking

Free on-site parking is available at the finca.

Spaces are not individually allocated and no reservation is required.  As with most rural properties, parking is at guests’ own risk.

Getting Around Locally

While Finca Gran Cerros offers plenty of space to relax without going anywhere, a car is essential if you wish to explore the surrounding area.

Local villages, shops, restaurants, and places of interest are reachable by car rather than on foot.

This is part of the rural setting and something we encourage guests to factor into their plans.

During Your Stay

Your accommodation is prepared for a comfortable, independent stay, each with its own private kitchen facilities, thoughtful furnishings and everything you need to settle in easily.

You’ll receive a personal welcome on arrival before being left to enjoy the finca at your own pace. We’re always available if needed, while giving you the privacy and freedom to make yourself completely at home.

Winter Stays (December to Febraury)

From 1 December to 28 February, Finca Gran Cerros operates as a fully self-catering rural retreat.

During the winter season:

  • Breakfast is not served.
  • Evening meals are not available.
  • Every accommodation includes its own fully equipped kitchen.
  • Heating and Wi-Fi are included throughout your stay.
  • The shared outdoor kitchen and honesty bar remain available for guests to enjoy.
  • The swimming pool remains open throughout the year but is unheated.

Every stay begins with a personal welcome.

During the quieter winter months Michael and Shaun may not always remain on site throughout your stay, but support is always available by phone or WhatsApp whenever you need it.

Arrival, Check-in & Check-out

Our standard times are:

Arrival and Check-in: from 15:00 and before 22:00 on the day of arrival

Check-out: by 11:00 on the day of departure

If your travel plans mean an earlier or later arrival or departure would be helpful, please ask us in advance and we’ll do our best to accommodate it, whenever possible.

Luggage storage is available free of charge on arrival and departure days if needed.

The Finca & Shared Spaces

Finca Gran Cerros is intentionally small and uncrowded.

Each accommodation is fully self-contained with private outdoor space. Guests also have access to shared areas of the finca, including:

  • The large swimming pool and sun terrace
  • The traditional Andalusian outdoor kitchen with BBQ
  • The honesty bar

The layout and limited guest numbers are designed to support privacy, calm, and ease. We simply ask that guests respect the peaceful atmosphere and other guests during their stay.

Breakfast (Main Season)

Breakfast is complimentary for guests staying between 1 April and 31 October.

Served each morning at 9:30, you can enjoy breakfast on your own private terrace or in the shared outdoor kitchen and honesty bar, whichever you prefer.

We serve a different light breakfast each day, which is designed to be a relaxed start to the day.

Our breakfast is complimentary, but not obligatory, so if you’d prefer not to have breakfast provided, simply let us know beforehand.

Similarly, if your party would prefer an earlier or later breakfast, we can provide a continental breakfast to you the evening before, for you to enjoy at your leisure.

If you have dietary requirements or allergies, please let us know in advance so we can advise and prepare accordingly.

Evening Meals (Main Season)

During our main season, we offer relaxed, home-cooked evening meals for guests who’d prefer to dine at the finca rather than heading out.

Our evening meals are:

  • A different set menu each day
  • Freshly prepared here at the finca
  • Inspired by seasonal, locally sourced ingredients
  • Available on selected evenings throughout the week
  • Served either on your private terrace or in our shared outdoor kitchen – whichever you prefer

Evening meals are optional and should be booked by 12 noon the previous day.

Bed linen is Egyptian cotton, and towels are pure cotton.

Pillows & mattresses

We provide:

  • Soft duck-down feather pillows
  • Firmer memory foam pillows
  • Anti-allergen pillows on request

Our mattresses are medium firmness.  Mattress toppers are available if you’d like to adjust firmness.

Additional housekeeping, linen, or towel changes can be requested at any time for a small charge.

Laundry

We do all of our laundry in-house.  Guests in Apartment El Chorro have their own washing machine.  However, please ask us for current laundry rates if required.

Wi-Fi & Connectivity

Wi-Fi is available throughout the accommodation.

Internet access is provided as a complimentary service and is suitable for general use such as browsing, email, messaging, and light streaming. While many guests choose to disconnect during their stay, we understand that staying connected is sometimes important.

As with any rural location, Wi-Fi availability cannot be guaranteed at all times, and we can’t accept any liability for outages or downtime, but we’ll always do our utmost to ensure that the service is available.

Terrain, Accessibility & Suitability

Finca Gran Cerros is set on a hillside, with uneven ground, slopes, and steps throughout the property. Due to the nature of the buildings and grounds, the finca is not suitable for guests with mobility difficulties, and we are unable to provide step-free or fully accessible accommodation.

We want guests to feel comfortable and safe during their stay, so if you have any concerns about suitability, please contact us before booking and we’ll be happy to advise honestly.

Adults-only Retreat

Finca Gran Cerros caters exclusively for guests aged 18 and over.

This allows us to maintain the quiet, restorative atmosphere many guests come here specifically to enjoy.

Dress Code & Shared Spaces

Finca Gran Cerros is not a naturist or clothing-optional property.

While the atmosphere here is relaxed and informal, we ask that guests remain appropriately dressed in all shared areas of the finca, out of consideration for others and the nature of the retreat.

Pets

We’re sorry that we’re unable to accommodate guests’ pets.

We share the finca with our three cats and a rescue dog who had a difficult start in life and remains nervous around other animals.

For his wellbeing – and to maintain a calmer environment for all guests – we’re unable to accommodate pets.

Smoking

Finca Gran Cerros is a completely non-smoking environment.

Smoking is not permitted inside the accommodation, within gardens or in any communal areas of the finca.

Guests wishing to smoke will be directed to a designated area near the entrance to the property.

Where smoking inside the accommodation results in specialist cleaning being required, a charge of €300 per accommodation will apply.

Safety & Licensing

For guest safety and peace of mind, each accommodation is equipped with:

  • Smoke and gas detectors
  • Fire extinguisher and fire blanket
  • First aid kit
  • Rechargeable torch
  • Emergency contact information

All accommodations are fully licensed, individually registered with the Junta de Andalucía, and compliant with Spanish regulations.

Spanish law requires all guests to register their stay electronically with the authorities. We provide guests with access to this secure online system in advance of arrival.
