One of southern Spain’s most famous visitor experiences, the Caminito del Rey is within easy reach of Finca Gran Cerros, our adults-only rural retreat near Álora in inland Andalusia.
Suspended along the steep walls of the El Chorro gorge, this restored walkway offers dramatic views, vertical drops, and a perspective on the landscape that feels both exhilarating and surprisingly accessible.
It is a memorable outing, and one that can be approached calmly and comfortably with a little planning; it’s not as daunting or scary as it might look!
The modern Caminito del Rey is a fully restored and well-managed, ticketed, walking route.
The walkway:
Follows a one-way linear route through the gorge
Is approximately 7–8km in total length (including approach paths)
Takes around 3–4 hours at an unhurried pace
Includes a combination of boardwalks, forest paths and footbridges
While the scenery is dramatic, the path itself is safe and clearly structured. Helmets are provided and visitor numbers are controlled, so the experience feels well managed rather than rushed.
You do not need to be a seasoned hiker but a reasonable level of mobility and comfort with heights is helpful.
Advance booking is essential.
Tickets are sold in timed slots and frequently sell out, particularly in spring and autumn.
We recommend:
Booking well in advance of your stay
Choosing a morning slot in warmer months
Checking the official Caminito website for availability
If you’re unsure about logistics, we’re happy to guide you before you book.

Originally constructed in the early 20th century to support hydroelectric works in the area, the Caminito earned a reputation as one of the world’s most dangerous walkways after falling into disrepair.
It has since been comprehensively rebuilt and reopened as a safe, regulated visitor attraction.
Today, it combines natural drama with industrial history – towering cliffs, turquoise waters, and remnants of the region’s engineering heritage.
Many guests combine the Caminito with:
A relaxed lunch in the village of El Chorro, Ardales or Álora
A visit to the El Chorro Lakes or Bobastro
A gentle evening back at the finca to relax and enjoy the peace of the countryside.
The experience is visually powerful and often leaves people quietly reflective afterwards.
It pairs well with a slower-paced day either side.
The Caminito del Rey tends to appeal to:
Guests who enjoy scenic walking with some structure
Those looking for a memorable highlight during their stay
Visitors curious about landscape and history
It may not suit:
Anyone uncomfortable with heights
Guests with mobility difficulties
It is an adventure, but one that can be enjoyed at your own pace.
The Caminito del Rey is approximately 45 minutes by car from Finca Gran Cerros, making it an easy day out during a stay with us.
There is a well-organised shuttle bus system connecting the exit and entrance points, with clear signage on arrival.
We’re always happy to help you:
Access last-minute tickets
Decide on a guided vs. unguided ticket
Plan your route and timing
Understand parking and the shuttle
Combine it with other nearby stops
Staying nearby also means there is no need to build your entire trip around the Caminito. Many guests combine it with time exploring Álora, El Chorro and the surrounding countryside, while leaving plenty of space simply to enjoy the finca.
