For Guests who Enjoy a Little More Action

While many guests come to Finca Gran Cerros to rest and reset, the surrounding landscape also offers opportunities for those who enjoy being active.

From walking routes and cycling climbs to more adventurous pursuits, inland Andalusia provides plenty of scope – if you feel like embracing it.

None of this is required to enjoy your stay. But if you prefer to return home feeling both rested and invigorated, these options may appeal.

WALKING & HIKING

The hills, valleys and limestone formations around us provide a wide range of walking routes — from gentle scenic strolls to more challenging hikes.

Some of our favourites include:

  • The Arab Steps (Escalera Arabe) near Álora; a historic path with expansive views

  • The El Santo walk in Pizarra

  • Routes around El Torcal for more dramatic limestone scenery

  • Lakeside walks near El Chorro

We maintain a small selection of recommended routes via our Wikiloc page, and we’re always happy to advise based on your experience level and the time of year.

Spring and autumn are particularly well suited to walking.

CYCLING

This region is well known among road cyclists for its quiet roads, steady climbs, and long scenic descents.

While we don’t market specifically to cycling groups, independent cyclists often appreciate:

  • Low traffic rural routes

  • Varied elevation

  • Wide open views

Bike hire can be arranged locally via Bike Kick (advance booking), who can suggest suitable routes depending on your confidence and experience.

Cycling here can be demanding, but rewarding.

CAMINITO DEL REY

One of Andalusia’s most dramatic walks, the Caminito del Rey follows a series of suspended walkways through a steep gorge near El Chorro.

It’s a managed, ticketed experience and needs to be booked well in advance — particularly in peak season.

The route itself is linear, well supervised, and accessible to reasonably fit walkers who are comfortable with heights.

Many guests combine the walk with lunch at the lakes or in Ardales.

Visiting from Finca Gran Cerros

All of these experiences are within comfortable driving distance of the finca and work best when approached without pressure.

Some guests build them into a day of exploring. Others add just one to their stay. And many choose simply to remain at the finca, content with the view.

If you’d like help deciding which might suit your stay, we’re always happy to offer guidance.
